Cinderella season ends; STA boys fall 9-0 in D2 State Semis.

While STA (10-6) felt all along they could make it to the semis, they knew it would take an all-worldly performance from the boys to advance to the Championship.  Hollis Brookline (13-2) proved to be a superior opponent but that didn't stop STA from providing a few challenging singles matches.  It didn't help that the Saints were without regular #4 Jake McGuire because now everyone in the lower half of the order would have to move up.  Despite the lineup change, STA had about 3 genuine opportunities at singles wins that could've changed the whole complexity of the match.  Sophomore Owen Himmer held a 3-2 lead in the #3 spot before eventually falling 3-8.  Junior Jack Benelli held a 3-0 lead at #6 singles before falling 4-8.  Junior Baxter Kimball even rallied from down 6-0 to 3-6 before falling 3-8.

The best match of the day and best chance for a point came at #1 singles.  Senior Captain Miguel Diaz held leads in a back and forth contest that provided a lot of impressive points.  Tied 5-5, Diaz pulled his hamstring which severely limited his mobility.  The injury changed the match and Diaz eventually fell 6-8.  Despite the lopsided score, Coach was impressed with the boys play against a tough opponent and was proud of his team for making the semis despite all of their inexperience.  STA looks loaded for a run next season as 5 starters will return to the lineup.

That not only ends the dream season for the Saints but also ends the career for seniors Diaz, Hayden Blaisdell, Ryan Lancaster, Nate Poulin, Trevor McAden, and Xzavier Randolph.  Remarkably all the seniors were in their 1st season of varsity tennis!
