Ginny Richburg

Head Coach

CoEd Varsity Cross Country

Coach Richburg was a 5 sport varsity letter winner in high school: field hockey, soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field, and softball. This was just as Title IX came into effect, so she was able to switch over to track and field as a sophomore. She earned league, state, and regional (New England) championships or top six ratings in hurdles, long jump, and javelin. Thus, she was snatched up as a multi-event athlete by Brandeis University while the school started its Women Track and Field and Cross Country Programs to match the men's rigor and reputation amongst D3 schools.

"My coach, Norm Levine, made me run cross country so that I could run a decent 800 (half mile) as the last event of the pentathlon or heptathlon. I was awful at first, but slowly improved to become the second women on the team with a personal best 20:20 5k and a 2:18 800. In the heptathlon, I was nearly All American, but because the university had not budgeted to send women to Nationals, my AD told my coach to train me to peak at Easterns.
